quite hesitating on my decision. I haven’t even provided a small summary at the
end of my main post this week, as I usually do. However, thanks for my
classmates’ comments, blog posts I have read, and the additional articles
researched during the second week, I have come to the point where I support the
idea of Open Access (OA) and here are some notes in support of my opinion, both
provided for personal research and classmates’:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">As a student, not
using such a great amount of knowledge available with one mouse click is just
isn’t right, especially when we pay for it. </span><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">As Jazzmin Curzon has mentioned, it
will “add significant value to the educational process”.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">As was mentioned
both by me and Laura Higgins, most of the scientific and medical research is
paid by public funds, so shouldn’t tax payers see the results of these
researches?</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">For an author, reusing
of the articles and jounalsincreases the popularity of that work and
subsequently you recieve more citations (Evie Bool).</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Scale, Cost and
Speed. I decided to merge this three performance factors nicely provided by
Francesca Gerard, as you can reach a great number of readers in little or no
cost and at a speed that allows your current Internet.</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="AZ-LATIN" style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: AZ-LATIN; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">And to summarize, there is one word left to be said. I’m not saying
that the articles and journals should be completely FREE. Obviously there is
some kind of payment that supports the day-to-day functionality of the journals
itself, and ‘yes’, there are a few disadvantages of the open source, such as
not centralized system of storage for articles or lack of trust to a specific
source because of its variety online. HOWEVER, aren’t we, either students or
ordinary people, those who pay for this kind of researches, either via our
tuition fees or taxes? Aren’t we those for whom these researches are performed?
And isn’t these researches targeting the goal to make human life easier to some
extend? If the answer for these questions are “Yes”, then I Do believe that we
have right to access the knowledge broadly available nowadays.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">We, students and academics, all

that:” Here is the one!!”. However, when you press the link it requires you to
sign up and perform an online payment, and all your plans for going sleep

happened during my search for the current topic, see <b>Picture 1</b>). The dilemma of whether to make the access to online

increases as the Internet expands. According to the study by </span><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Simon-Kucher & Partners, 90% of online content will be

those which took them a lot of time to create. Because of this dilemma I have
faced with I will not give a small conclusion for the current post (as I

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">After the experience
with the first blog post (not an exercise related one), I have decided to write
a second one and this time the trigger to the topic was another classmate’s
post, Kimberly Fenton’s. As you might understand from the heading I’m writing
about the About.me social network. I will be honest in saying that I have never
even heard of it before I have been introduced in this module, #UOSM2008, and
to be honest the first impression wasn't good. It has lots of similarities with
other social networks, such as:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; text-indent: -18pt;">Similar to LinkedIn it sends everyday notifications of the people that
have viewed your about.me page.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; text-indent: -18pt;">People can send each other notifications stating that they have “complimented”
you and it is very similar to dating websites’ “Wink” button.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; text-indent: -18pt;">It also does provide a news feed and sends you a weekly updates and
news.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; text-indent: -18pt;">Etc.</span></li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">However, a question
may arise in our heads, whether what does it differ About.me from others? What
is special about it? There is one feature: it allows a user to connect all social
networks related to a person, in one place. And I will be honest, this is quite
an awesome idea (sorry my informal language). At times when we feel lost among
this amount of social networks, at times when we even forget the usernames and
passwords for every single one, and when we are struggling to keep the data
up-to-date on all of them at the same time, this solution is just brilliant.
However, for me personally, not the idea itself gives the interest in this
social media, but the simplicity of presentation standing behind it. As you can
see from the picture below, there are just a few lines of text summarizing
yourself, basic contact information and self-explanatory icons that refer you to
respective social network websites. Isn’t that simple?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wCONwsE9NiA/U03n3d4YnXI/AAAAAAAABUQ/uT0yiWB_oaw/s1600/a.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wCONwsE9NiA/U03n3d4YnXI/AAAAAAAABUQ/uT0yiWB_oaw/s1600/a.png" height="377" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">And last but
not least I want to mention one special icon that not everyone might be
familiar with. It is the very last one in my list of social networks and I was
quite surprised to see it there. It is the GitHub, and for those who don’t know
it is a web-based hosting service for software development projects that uses
the Git revision control system (</span><a href="https://github.com/" style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">https://github.com/</a><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">).
Basically, it is like a Dropbox, but for coding, and for me as an IT person it
is everything. Just imagine that I can make my code public and share with
anyone and everywhere.</span><br />

actual creation of the About me page, a mutual feedback was given by two of our
classmates, Kimberly Fenton and Francesca Gerard. Below you can see our
conversion via Twitter:<o:p></o:p></span></div>

have triggered me to write this post. In his comment, Tim has mentioned that by
using one online profile you can not only use it within one social media, but
also use it to sign up for different applications and software. I have agreed
with his point, but by that time I wasn't quite focused on it. Recently,
however, throughout my development in the area of social media, thanks to our
module, I have realized the true power of any single social media. To make it
completely clear for a reader, I’m speaking about the moment when you have
accessed a website or an app and they ask you to Sign Up OR, which is more
important, to Log In using your current social network details, e.g. Facebook,
Google+, Twitter. Just for the sake of curiosity, I have decided to search for
this kind of applications that allow Log In via social media profile and as my
bases I have focused mostly on Facebook. My choice is not surprising as 51% of
sites and apps prefer Facebook as a social login (Picture and Reference are provided
below).<o:p></o:p></span></div>

allow this kind of Sign Ups. However, it is time to state that there are two
sides of this kind of online facilities. On one side, you are saving tons of
your personal time on everyday Sign Up pages, which are annoying. However, on
the other side, you allow a complete access to your profile to the app. They have
not only the access to your profile, but even the permission to post news on your
behalf. The limit till which you consider to allow this kind of things is up to
a user, and only he/she can decide on it. Every person has his/her level of
privacy. <div style="background: white; line-height: 18.2pt; margin-bottom: 18.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif;">So, before we jump into Easter Holidays, it is time to
summarise the fourth topic of the term: </span><b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">“Ethical issues raised by
educational and business uses of social media”. </span></b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Cambria","serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">I will be honest and say that
at first read I didn’t understand what the topic was, however, further links
had made it clear and in this summary, I will just mention in bullet points, as
I did last time, the important points mentioned by me and my classmates:</span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 18.2pt; margin-bottom: 18.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;">Firstly, let’s start from the causes of
this issue. More than 40% of the population were online by the end of the year
2013 </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="-1396657335" style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Kelion, 2013)</span></w:sdt><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"> and this number is
just shocking. It is quite normal that this kind of issues arise as two out of
five people worldwide are online (Also mentioned by Laura Jane Higgins).</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;">The examples of people behaving unacceptable
online are endless. However, those which are related to the business and
education world have much more impact, as I gave examples of Virgin Airlines
crew </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="-2102393562" style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Steview, 2008)</span></w:sdt><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"> and a school teacher
being fired </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="-1878542148" style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Reporter, 2011)</span></w:sdt><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"> for inappropriate
posts. In the former customer service of the company was black marked and in
the latter, the situation might shatter the confidence of parents in the school
teachers.</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;">And as Kimberly Fenton have commented on
my post, nowadays even CEOs of the companies are required to communicate using social
media to “show innovation, build media relationships and provide the human face
for the company” </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="809374994" style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Lipschultz, 2013)</span></w:sdt><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif; line-height: 18.2pt; text-indent: -18pt;">.</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<div style="background: white; line-height: 18.2pt; margin-bottom: 18.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #333333; font-family: Cambria, serif;">To sum up, I totally agree with Alysia Wildman’s (our
classmate) point of view that clear social media policies have to be
established, because the grow of the Internet will just make this problem
bigger and bigger. Articles number 18 and 29 in the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights are very generic and I’m quite sure that in the year it was
established, 1947, they didn’t consider the power of the Internet available
nowadays. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 18.2pt; margin-bottom: 18.0pt; margin-left: 0cm; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;">

develop your professional online profile. Unfortunately, I </span><span style="line-height: 18.399999618530273px;">wasn't</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"> lucky enough

to George Chiverton, whose comment I had pleasure to read. I will try to do my
best next time to improve my grammar and be more exact in the references I make
and don’t mix meanings up. As there </span></span><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;"><span style="line-height: 18.399999618530273px;">aren't</span></span><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: small;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> many comments on my blog, I will go for mentioning the important points, in my opinion, from both, my own blog and the
classmates’:</span></span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Firstly, relevant to mention that I have enjoyed reading Alysia Wildman’s
post, not just because of the content, but mostly because she have applied everything
she have mentioned on her blog to her own online professional profile on
LinkedIn. I think it’s a much better idea than mine, but still it is never late
for me to do it.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Secondly, one of the new aspects for me was “video CV” and to be honest, I
was quite surprised to read about it (blogs of </span><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Emma Meheux and Kimberly Fenton</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">). Despite my interest and surprise, I have concluded
to myself that this kind of self-branding depends completely on the area a
person is searching a job in, so for example, in the area of my interest, IT,
it will not be as powerful as in Marketing.</span></li>

should focus not only on the social networks, such as LinkedIn. Yes, certainly
it provides more broad and deep insight about a person than any other network,
with all various sections and subsections to be filled describing the person.
However, the networks, such as Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, etc. represent a
person’s inner characteristics not visible on the CV: his/her opinions on different
topics, worldview, ability to communicate with others and so on. We never know
what a potential employer can be interested in, so why not to be ready from
different sides?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">In the modern world, when our everyday life
becomes more and more online, the recruitment sector and employers are not the
last people who are using online facilities. On the contrary, they have taken
the recruitment to the whole new level where there is no need any more to carry
your paper CV with you. However, as a person who has joined this trend around
three years ago I had two main questions: Why do you need an authentic online
professional profile? And, how do you develop one? In this post, I will answer
both of these questions based on the research and my personal experience.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">Why do you
need an authentic online professional profile? For example, “LinkedIn”:</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Well, the first answer could be: Why not? It is not very time consuming, it is accessible to everyone in every language, it is nearly always
for free (unless you want to upgrade your LinkedIn) and you also can have your
small portion of data on the Internet in this age of online information overload.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">It is easier to find a job, internship, placement, etc. My close
friend, a young web developer, has received two job offers via LinkedIn. The
point is, he haven't even apply, as they have found him by themselves.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">According to the studies, 75% of HR department are checking their
applicants online and 50% of them say that it influences their decision </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="928323699" style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Microsoft, 2013)</span></w:sdt><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">. Not having an online profile will cause more questions than answers.</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-latin;">How you
develop an online profile:</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Better than my words could be just the
explanation via picture. Posted below are the pictures that I have scanned from
the paper given to me on the Carriers Fair held at the University of
Southampton, by ConnectUs recruitment consultancy. However, I will still point
out the most important parts of it, in my opinion:</span></div>

<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Have a professional photo. As most of the HRs deliberately do not
want a photo on the CV, an online identity with your photo is the only way they
can see you. Remember that the first impression is very important </span><w:sdt citation="t" id="-104039427" style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;"><span lang="EN-US">(Hyams, 2012)</span></w:sdt><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">.</span></li>

the post readers: be as <b>authentic </b>and correct as possible in showing your
identity! We all have to accept that during the creation of our own profiles,
both online and on paper, we often do embellish a little bit the stories about
us. It is completely normal, but to the some extend. I personally do remember
that on my first CV I have specified various programming languages that I have
pleasure to code in without specifying the degree of knowledge for each. I had
a very unpleasant situation when during one of the telephone interviews I was
asked the very deep questions of one of the programming languages I have
specified, that was quite a lesson for me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

module Living and Working on the Web. The first thing to be mentioned is my
mistake of misunderstanding the topic’s question (thanks to George Chiverton
for pointing at it). The question was to describe the pros and cons of having
more than one online identity, when I have gone a bit differently by explaining
the pros and cons of just having an online identity. Having read others
comments and blogs I have came up with the following notes:<o:p></o:p></span><br />

Wildman. The differentiation between Anonymity and Authenticity is quite
important, as the former depends on a user and could be performed in various
ways, via a specific software or just frauding your identity, and the latter “creates
an online version of your life that relies on your true identity in order to
function” <w:sdt citation="t" id="175323463"><!--[if supportFields]><span

with this trend, I do have more than one online identity in order to be aware
of all events and let others get in touch with me, especially when you are
studying abroad. After the research on this topic both online and within
myself, I have came to the opinion that it doesn't matter at all how many
online identities do you have and in which social networks. The thing that does
matter is how wisely and purposefully you use it. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

could imagine that his idea for connecting several computers to make it easier to
pass scientific and military information will grow later into this enormous network
called the Internet. Demanding grows in popularity of online activities has
lead people to create their “digital identities”. However, what is this “Digital
identity”? This term is used to describe personas that individuals use across
social networks in which they are represented <w:sdt citation="t" id="1869176888"><!--[if supportFields]><span style='mso-element:field-begin'></span><span

<li style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Let’s not forget about online identities created in LinkedIn,
which helps a lot people find jobs, share knowledge and companies to advertise
and promote themselves. One of my friends got his job offer via LinkedIn, the company
found him itself.</span></li>

might sound strange to hear this from a young person who considers himself a “Digital
Resident” of the Web and a person whose major is in Information Technology in
Organisation, but I will be honest and say that I’m quite against putting your
entire life online to be visible by others. Yes, online communication is good,
it removes borders between countries and nations; Yes, it allows people to
share their happiness and pain with others and Yes, those who are afraid to
speak in public can have their freedom online to express their opinions as they
want. However, all of these, and more, must be to some extend!<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="background: white; color: #242424; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">So, we have come to the end of the first topic in the module
Living and Working on the Web (#UOSM2008). We were given a task to explain the concept
of Digital “Visitor” and “Resident” based on our readings and personal online
experience. Having read others blogs and comments for my own one there are few
things that I need to clarify in order to summarize the topic:</span><span style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<ol start="1" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; orphans: auto; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;" type="1">
<li class="MsoNormal" style="color: black; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #242424; font-size: 12.0pt;">First and the most significant one is
that I should not mix up definitions as I did in my first paragraph with
Prensky (2011) and White (2011), because I just thought that they can be
used interchangeably. Apparently it isn't.</span><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="color: black; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #242424; font-size: 12.0pt;">Secondly, as I have mentioned in my
blog, the division of people into 'Residents' and 'Visitors' is not
precise and there is a huge gap in the middle. And as one of my classmates (Kimberly) have mentioned in my comments: "this concept forms a continuum<span style="background: white;"> to which people can find themselves in
between the two, and showing some attributes from each entity".</span> To
support this, I can give an example from an article I had pleasure to
read and which was sent to me by one of my classmates (Jazmin). This was Horrigans
(2007), which had this idea that people are divided into 10 groups
according their level of activity online:</span><span style="font-size: 12.0pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ol>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oSsnHnpNLkk/UwCPqhQ5ijI/AAAAAAAAAFw/hkLe_Uwr5KI/s1600/%D0%A1%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%BA.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; line-height: 18.399999618530273px; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oSsnHnpNLkk/UwCPqhQ5ijI/AAAAAAAAAFw/hkLe_Uwr5KI/s1600/%D0%A1%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%BA.JPG" height="267" width="400" /></a><br /><b style="text-align: center;">Picture Source: </b><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20.15999984741211px; text-align: justify;">http://www.pewinternet.org/~/media/Files/Reports/2007/PIP_ICT_Typology.pdf.pdf </span><br />
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Cambria; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20.15999984741211px; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">In conclusion, I'm still of the opinion that this concept is
far too narrow and needs more groups, or even sub-groups to describe the
variety of users online. Idea of Horrigans (2007) replicates much deeper insight
of this concept (See the picture above). </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Overall, this was my first blog, and I hope that people have
enjoyed reading it, because I actually, enjoyed writing it :). Looking forward
to see the next task.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Because of the rapid growth of the technologies in the past few decades,
people have been categorized into two groups. One group consists of people who
were born in the digital age and were surrounded by the technologies, such as
video games, emails, the Internet, social networks, etc. and are considered the
“<u>native speakers</u>” of computers or “<u>digital residents</u>”. In contrast, the other
group consists of people who have come to technology later in their life, normally

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">However, is this distinction between people precise and always true?
Does it define how well and efficiently they use online sources? Definitely Not!
Data indicates that despite the fact
that most of the people over 55 are made up of Visitors there are lots of
examples of Residents in that among them. In the same manner, not every young
person under 25 is a digital Citizen <w:sdt citation="t" id="506102592"><!--[if supportFields]><span
style='mso-element:field-begin'></span><span style='mso-ansi-language:EN-US'><span

these rule breaking is the fact that it is not important “what” you are using on
the web, but “how” you are using it. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">As an example in support of these exceptions from my personal life a
good friend of mine is studying Computer Science, but he was surprised when I have
introduced him well-known websites, such as <i>scholar.google.com,
dl.acm.org</i> and <i>ieeexplore.ieee.org </i>for
searching online articles and conference papers. At the same time, my parents are
far from technologies, but they can easily access the Internet, purchase
tickets for bus, planes and trains, book hotels and read news from websites and
sources existence of which I don’t even know about.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">To conclude, after a research on this topic, I have realised that we,
the young generation, as a ‘Residents’ of the web have more advantages than ‘Visitors’,
because we are familiar with the language of technologies around us. Our duty
is to use these technologies as effectively as possible, because as was stated
previously it doesn’t matter <i>what </i>do
you use, it is <i>how</i> you are using it. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
